Dentures are one of the best and most affordable ways to replace missing teeth. Complete dentures can be used by those who have lost all their teeth, whereas partial dentures replace only a few missing teeth. They are made to closely resemble one’s natural teeth and are also effective at replacing the mouth’s functionality.

Why should you choose dentures?

  • Dentures look exactly like natural teeth. Hence, you wouldn’t have to feel embarrassed due to missing teeth.
  • They give your face, especially the jaws, a fuller appearance as they replace the missing teeth. Thereby, they improve the shape of your cheeks and lips.
  • They are removable.
  • Cleaning dentures is easy. You can do it using a regular soft-medium bristled toothbrush.
  • They boost your self-confidence.
  • They help you get rid of any dietary restrictions. You can feel free to eat any solid food without having to worry about damage to your dentures.
  • They address your inability to pronounce words correctly due to missing teeth.
  • They are long-lasting, provided they are well cared for.
  • They can be fabricated with excellent precision, and they don’t tend to get displaced in the mouth due to the perfect fit offered.

What is the procedure involved?

Getting your dentures would usually require a few visits to the dentist’s office. During the initial visit, the dentist would diagnose your dental set-up carefully and take x-rays and scans to serve as a reference for fabricating the prostheses. Dentures will be made in a dental laboratory in a few days using digital impressions as a reference. During the next visit, the dentures would be checked for perfect fit and size. Any change that’s required in the fit will be made to make sure that they are comfortable to use.

What are partial dentures?

Partial dentures are similar to complete dentures, as they are used to restore multiple missing teeth. But, they do not replace every single tooth in the mouth. For instance, if 10 of the 32 teeth are missing, it wouldn’t be possible to replace all of them using dentures, dental bridges, or implants. Instead, partial dentures can be fabricated according to the requirement and placed in the mouth. The prosthetic teeth would fit in place of the missing teeth, alongside the existing natural teeth. Just like conventional dentures, partial dentures are removable and offer similar properties.

Care of dentures

Dentures should be cleaned regularly. They have to be removed and brushed, just how you brush your natural teeth, as it would reduce the chances of them developing stains or plaque deposits. Initially, they may feel uncomfortable in the mouth. Difficulty in speaking, chewing food, soreness of the gums, and increased flow of saliva may be expected. But, you would get used to them within a few days of continuous usage. Regular consultations with the dentist would be necessary to ensure they do not warp, deform, or to restore them in case of damage.
